In 1959 a small group of independent Victorian furniture retailers met to discuss the possibility of forming an association to maximise the effectiveness of their businesses in the face of increased competition from large, franchised organisations. As a result of this initial meeting, Newfurn Floor Coverings Ltd was formed. Over thirty years later, in 1993, they launched the Carpet Choice brand with 17 stores in Victoria.
Since then, after a further brand update, Choices Flooring has rapidly grown to include more than 140 stores across Australia and New Zealand. Since those early days, Choices Flooring has arguably become Australia’s mose progressive retail floor coverings group and a major force in the Australian retail sector.
Following the success of Choices Flooring, in 2013 Newfurn acquired a collection of premium retail stores specialising in wool carpets. Collectively known as Woolset, these independent stores are located across Australia. However, as consumer lifestyles continue to evolve the relevance of the Woolset brand started to diminish.
As a result, in 2017 the group rebranded to Style Flooring & Interiors, enabling them to reconnect with consumers and provide a solid platform for future growth. Today there over 20 Style Flooring and Interiors stores operating right across Australia.
Over the years, Newfurn has grown to become one of the largest private companies within Australia. With retail stores across Australia and New Zealand in over 165 different locations, Newfurn continues to go from strength to strength.
Through diversification and sound management, Newfurn established a new portfolio called Newfurn Property. Newfurn Property was established to coincide with the group’s first property purchase -a new environmentally friendly central office for staff servicing the membership. With a large warehousing component, the new central office located in Rowville Victoria provides a solid platform for Newfurn to continue being Australasia’s most progressive retail floor coverings group.
